  • It can be recalled that President Buhari had in a broadcast on Monday, August 21, said every Nigerian had the right to live and pursue business anywhere in Nigeria without hindrance. The president also recalled how in 2003, he hosted the late ex-Biafra warlord, Chukwuemeka Ojukwu at his Daura country home where both of them had resolved that Nigeria must remain an indissoluble entity. He said: “In 2003 after I joined partisan politics, the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as my guest in my hometown Daura. Over two days we discussed in great depth till late into the night and analyzed the problems of Nigeria. We both came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united. “Nigeria’s unity is settled and not negotiable. We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood.”
  • The president has posted a clip of that meeting with Ojukwu via his official Twitter handle. In the clip, the two men are seen shaking hands during the meeting that took place in the president’s hometown of DauraThe presidential aide also described as untrue and false the insinuation by some mischief makers that the south east region was not in support of President Buhari’s administration.

  • Meanwhile in a seperate incident, first son of late Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu yesterday stated that President Muhammadu Buhari was right in his broadcast speech on his discussions with his late father on the indivisibility of Nigeria. In a press statement made available to journalists in Awka. Emeka Ojukwu denied reports by the media that he had made a statement claiming that Buhari was wrong in his broadcast regarding the discussions with his late father. "I want to state in an unequivocal terms that at no time did i grant any interview to any media or post anything on the social media". He released this press statement following stories making the round on social media that he (Emeka Ojukwu Jr.) had informed the public that Buhari's statements were untrue.

    Emeka Ojukwu Junior

Ojukwu Jr. acknowledged that his father, the late Odumegwu Ojukwu held the said meeting with President Buhari. "It has been brought to my notice of an article making the rounds on social media attributed to me, refuting the remarks of Mr President concerning his relationship and discussions with my late father. Let me categorically state that i made no such comments to anybody and secondly that i am aware that Buhari's comments were indeed factual. "I have noticed a disturbing trend recently of fake news being attributed to me on social media, i don't know who might be behind it or what their motivations might be but let me assure you that anytime i feel the need to comment publicly on any matter, i will not do so via some anonymous email or anything".

Ojukwu Jr. urged members of the public to discountenance the stories on social media and other platforms accredited to him warning that such malicious and damaging publications will not be taken lightly if repeated henceforth. He also urged the president not to take such comments serious as it is capable of overheating the already heated polity if not nipped in the bud as a matter of urgency.
